By 5pm on 30 September 2021, the Western Cape Government had administered a cumulative total of 2 878 501 vaccines to healthcare workers, staff in the education sector and those within eligible age brackets.

The current 7-day moving average is 25 deaths per day.

Additional data is available on the Western Cape COVID-19 data dashboard which also features active cases per sub-district, active cases per 100 000 and 7-day moving averages. To view the Dashboard, visit: https://coronavirus.westerncape.gov.za/covid-19-dashboard

You can also view the Western Cape Government’s vaccine registration dashboard by visiting: https://coronavirus.westerncape.gov.za/vaccine-dashboard

Let’s get vaccinated this Vooma weekend

This weekend, the Western Cape Government will be driving vaccine uptake through the Vooma vaccination drive where the Western Cape will have over 300 public and private vaccine sites operational across the Metro and in our rural sub-districts.

Should you have not yet gotten vaccinated or if you are due for your second dose, I encourage you to make use of the Vooma weekend by getting vaccinated at any one of our stations across the province.

I especially want to appeal to those residents 50 years and older to go out and get vaccinated. Our data shows clearly that residents in this age bracket have the highest risk of getting severely ill from COVID-19 and dying.

Our data also shows that the vaccine is already working extremely well in preventing severe illness and death in this same age bracket. While the vaccine does not offer 100% protection against getting COVID-19, it does provide the best protection available against ending up in hospital and dying.

COVID-19 updates online - notice

The Western Cape Government has invested in excellent online, public facing data sharing platforms, including the COVID-19 public facing dashboard and the vaccine public facing dashboard. The COVID-19 public facing dashboard has already had 3 million visits since we started it.

These dashboards are updated daily and include a variety of datasets that go far beyond what is presented in this daily statement every day.

To prevent duplication, we will no longer be issuing Daily Updates in the form of a daily press statement and different set of maps. This information is all already on the dashboard, as of 1pm of that day. We encourage members of the media and the public to visit the dashboard for this information.

The Premier’s social media pages will continue to, on a daily basis, share an update from the dashboard that provides high-level COVID-19 statistics. The Premier’s social pages will also share, daily, the number of vaccines administered over the last 24 hours. The Premier will also continue with the weekly digital press conference, where we will provide detailed information on the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccination campaign weekly.
