I am planning on going overseas. What should I do to remain safe?
No travel in or out of the country is allowed during the lockdown, so you won't be able to leave the country. Please stay at home.
I am a foreign tourist in South Africa - what must I do during the lockdown (Alert Level 5) or Alert Level 4?
If you are a foreign tourist who arrived in South Africa before, or after, the lockdown, and you remained in South Africa, you must stay in your place of temporary residence in South Africa for the duration of the lockdown.
On arrival in South Africa you may be subject to screening for Covid-19 and be quarantined or isolated.
Exceptions to the above may be allowed for the purposes of the evacuation of foreign tourists where arrangements, including an arrangement for the evacuation by air charter, has been made by the relevant embassy. During evacuation, tourists must be escorted point of exit where they may be screened again for Covid-19.
I need to enter South Africa for emergency medical attention for a life-threatening condition - will I be allowed to enter the country?
You may only be allowed to enter South Africa for emergency medical attention for a life-threatening condition if the Minister of Home Affairs, or their designate, gives you permission to do so.
I have returned from abroad, what must I do?
Anyone who has arrived back in South Africa from any foreign country must self-quarantine for 14 days.
